Biometrics

A suite of nine biometrics units of competency have been developed for incorporation into the Asset Security Training Package PRS03. The availability of these units of competency represents for the first time, the outcomes and critical functions and activities required to assess, implement and monitor biometric systems within a security operations context in Australia.

The units of competency are aligned across Australian Qualifications Framework from Certificate II to the Diploma level covering workplace functions related to biometrics systems (eg analysis and design, enrolment and establishment, installation and commissioning, monitoring and operation, diagnosis and maintenance).

The units will be incorporated as electives within selected existing Asset Security qualifications. A biometrics “skill set” or competency cluster has also been included across the Certificate IV to Diploma levels covering the role of the “biometrics consultant/adviser”. This will enhance skills development and the opportunity for recognition below that of a full qualification.

The units and qualification framework have been submitted to the National Quality Council for endorsement in the near future.
